Hey,
Thanks for playing/mentioning my songs on your show! That was awesome! If you want me to do any more covers of “less standard” TMBG songs for your show, just let me know. I would love to be on your podcast. Maybe you could set up a suggestion thingee too. You’re awesome.
John Barna
John Barna
Tryptophan
or rather “Tryptophane.”
Sorry if I answered much too quickly for others to have a chance, “that’s my mistake”. At least, as they say, there’s “more to go around”.
badqueso
There’s an error when trying to connect to the podcast in iTunes. Is there something wrong with your RSS feed or did you change the url of the feed?
Eric F. Myers
Eric, thanks for the alert. The feed wasn’t validating. I fixed that issue, so hopefully iTunes will fall into line.
Badqueso, congratulations!
John, glad you approve! I’ll email you shortly. :)
Mr. Me
Found it! It’s Tryptophan. Uber IMDB/Google skills for the win!
This podcast was AWESOME, despite the fact that this marks the four hundred seventy third time I’ve heard Word Disassociation.
I don’t think I’ve told you, but I based one of my projects heavily on this. Used the same bulleted system - we talk about stuff on air, and link to it on the blog. It’s available at this link.
j2
Still not quite not working in iTunes. Might there be a typo in the url?
ACupOfCoffee
I think I might know the problem. If you’re using WP-Ipodcatter, it takes all media links and sends them to the feed. I’ve had problems with that - managed to get around them by linking to a page that redirects to the content.
j2
Actually I just looked at the source of the feed and even though I don’t know the first thing about XML and RSS, I do know that that it isn’t supposed to be just a link to the Lemon Demon video.
ACupOfCoffee
There are a group of amino acids essential to humans, but there are two in specific that come to mind in reference to the genetically enhanced Alba in Dark Angel:
Tryptophan (which others have mentioned already)
Methionine
Do I get bonus points for identifying the second amino acid essential to the genetic code in humans?
Reynoldbot
Oh I forgot to add: I recorded covers of “Bed Bed Bed” and “Birds Fly” if you are interested. I will be recording finished versions of the two in about a month or so. I can send them to you and if you like them you are free to include them in your show.
Reynoldbot
Yeah, I got one going to the Istanbul video. I’ll kick iTunes later and see if it’s updated, though.
j2
Oh, and Reynold, I noticed that Wikipedia said there were eight essential amino acids, but as far as I could tell, Tryptophan was the only one that was in the movie. So I’m kinda confused now.
j2
Good job as usual. The Lemon Demon was wonderful; quite tasty brains
Bibliophilia
J2 - Tryptophan and Methionine are both part of the group of 20 amino acids found in the genetic code. Tryptophan and Methionine are together the only amino acids that are made of a single codon in the genetic code. But if Tryptophan was explicitely referenced in “Dark Angel,” then it is most likely the answer the webmaster is seeking. All 8 of the essential amino acids are found in genetic code.
Reynoldbot
I just got iTunes to download the show, so it works again.
ACupOfCoffee
So, um, yeah. I really like this podcast. I always look forward to it. I wasn’t able to listen to it until just now, so could I at least get a pencil. I would have answered sooner. I asked a doctor, and he said it was Tryptophan, so I at least answered correctly. I never have won a contest before, like a raffle or business card thing or radio giveaway or anything like that, so it would be nice
All right. Keep doing what you do. I love it.
Nate Rivera-Melo
Interesting, Reynold. Time to impress my bio teacher!
j2
Okay, what are we talking about when we say animo acids “essential to the genetic code”?
The human genetic code? That sounds backwards to me, but I have been outta school a while. I was taught that DNA was the map, that DNA encoded for the sequence of animo acids in different proteins, so the cells could build necessary proteins using the DNA as a template.
I also thought I remembered that of the 20 naturally occurring amino acids, 8 “essential” amino acids are needed to in the human diet because the body can’t manufacture them.
So I must be mis-remembering. Can someone explain, “Tryptophan and Methionine are together the only amino acids that are made of a single codon in the genetic code.” My understanding was that tryptophan is one of the essentials, so it isn’t being created via a codon in the DNA, it must be ingested.
Puzzled,
Bib

Tryptophan calms Jessica’s seizures, right?
That’s why you can’t keep turkey around with her in the room.

Wonderful service you provide here.
I love the podcasts.
I may be a little late for this, but I wasn’t exactly sure how this trivia thing works, but the answer is . . .
Tryptophan, which also happens to be a song by Mono Puff.
I hope I win something cool!!
THANKS!!
Troy Bogdan
Tryptophan! Or however way it’s spelt. Shame I’m too late to post the answer, but just wanted to say,*damn* I love Dark Angel!
New podcast from ye! Woo! *is listening to it now*

I wonder if it’s been mentioned that the guy from Lemon Demon is a big fan of tmbg… known on some areas of the internet as Trapezoid.
also, i know i’m like a week and a half late, but i knew as soon as i heard the trivia question that the answer was tryptophan, and i also knew the connection to tmbg… damn you, syndicated content!

I have a weird video we whipped together for “I Am Not Your Broom” if any one’s interested….

Did I mention, that Tryptophan is a Mono Puff song?!?!? Surely you know about John Flansburgh’s Mono Puff? I first heard the song in March 1995 on the “Hello, CD of the month Club,” as it happens to be the first song on the CD. Surely this nugget of trivia entitles me to at least a pencil doesnt it??
By the way, I think you should play some Mono Puff once in a while on the show. It isn’t TMBG, but it is Flansy, and besides, “The Devil Went Down to Newport” is one of the greatest Flans’ songs ever!!!!

Did anyone notice TMBG songs in those Dunkin Donuts commercials?
