Nothing’s Gonna Change My Clothes

I’m thinking of changing the format of my show, to enable me to do it more frequently.
While I’ve always found ways to incorporate music from other groups into the show, what if the “they” in “theynow” referred not only to They Might Be Giants, but also to the people they influence. I joked around with Jonathan Coulton on an earlier episode that he and John Hodgman and Sarah Vowell and TMBG and Jon Stewart were all part of an ultra-liberal illuminati cabal bent on world domination. Maybe “they” refers to the entire cabal.
And also, musicians whose style is at least sometimes reminiscent of TMBG like, say, Lemon Demon or songstowearpantsto.com, etc.
The thing about Theynow up to this point is that I let the content decide when the show gets released. There’s not always a lot of recent TMBG content that would make sense to play on the show, especially considering my rule of not playing recordings that are currently for sale.
That’s really as far as I’ve thought on the subject. What do you think?
Good idea. More podcast = good podcast.

I agree,I think that’s a brilliant idea. I’ve always loved most of the “like TMBG” music you’ve had on the show, and without you I would never have found out about the likes of Johnathan Coulton and such!

Hey go ahead. It’s a lot better than having months in-between a podcast, while Flans cranks out more podcasts with more new TMBG stuff.

John Hodgman, Sarah Vowell, John Stewart, and TMBG….all people who appear/ed on The Daily Show.
Coincidence!?

I’ve been pondering this question for a few days now, and I don’t know what to say. I suppose I wouldn’t mind having a few other “Theys” involved, but at the same time, I’m not sure if I like the focus being taken off TMBG. In the past you’ve had other artists and it was usually pretty cool, although I admit I was less interested in some of it (I am not really a fan of Jonathan Coulton, and didn’t enjoy him that much). But I do like the other artists that cover TMBG songs, and wholeheartily endorse more of that. I certainly would like to hear more podcasts and have missed them (although I admit, they came so frequently for a while there, I took them for granted). Anyways, those are my thoughts for now. Keep up the good work, and whatever you decide to do Mr. Me, I will still be listening . . .
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO and keep up the great podcasting!!

Perhaps you could do the more frequent non-TMBG podcasts but call it something different- Theynot perhaps? You could follow the same style, so your regular listeners will still enjoy it, but not dilute the main podcast for the hardcore-TMBG only audience.
