I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that They Might Be Giants’ new album “The Else” was just released on iTunes.

Just wondering what are people’s intial thoughts on The Else? Haven’t read a review anywhere.

I am a bit concerned. Tomorrow is the release date for “The Else,” and not one of the store advertising circulars in my Sunday Newspaper had the album advertised for sale on Tuesday, not even Best Buy. I checked the web site and BB and Amazon both have them for pre-order, but they are both 1 disc sets. I thought TMBG promised us a 2 disc set to offset those who may have downloaded from iTunes?
Anybody got the straight scoop?
I want to purchase a 2 disc set tomorrow.

I checked out the Google discussion, and they were without a clear answer also . . . I’d cancel my pre-order based on that discussion too. I’m surprised it isn’t already in the mail . . . aren’t they supposed to arrive the day of release?

The reviews of The Else on Amazon seem to indicate it does come with a bonus album, though it’s not indicated as such in the Amazon listing. I’m preparing to order from Amazon — should I expect the bonus CD or not?

I was not enamoured with “The Else.” I think it is just O.K. I thought the Dust Brothers were going to bring something new to the table, but this albums sounds like eveything everything else they’ve ever done. I think the D’Bros. are getting a little dusty ;-)as are our “Twin Quasars of rock.” Sad to say, I like the bonus disc better than the album, and I’ve heard all that before on podcasts. I actually think the Mesopotaminans (sic) is the worst song on the album, but who knows, it may grow in me. C+ is my review so far.

Flexo - the retail version does, in fact, come with a bonus disc (called “Cast Your Pod to the Wind”) containing 23 tracks. The copy that I picked up tonight at Best Buy had it, so I would imagine that a copy procured from the Amazon.com would as well. It seems to be a non-iTunes bonus. (Get the album a month early, or get 23 bonus tracks - you can’t have it both ways!)
